SAFA DON'T GO BACK (PROD. TALL BLACK GUY)
'Don’t Go Back' is alternative R&B at its most transportive. A weightless, melodic escape hatch from reality. Safa and Tall Black Guy have crafted a song that doesn’t just sound good; it feels like stepping into another world. Silky vocals float over TBG’s signature, soulful production, creating a sonic retreat so vivid you can practically breathe the air. The irony is, this song itself was born at a retreat. Safa noticed Tall Black Guy a couple of months ago at Jazzy Jeff's Playlist Retreat, with the kind of double take only true disciples of his work will understand. This wasn’t just any producer; this was the architect. Within days, they’d committed to reconnecting creatively after the retreat. 'Don’t Go Back' began as an abandoned idea, a melody lying dormant in Safa’s “files graveyard". The original beat had gone to another artist, and the spark felt lost. But Tall Black Guy, with his instinct for possibility, heard something more. He rebuilt the sonic world around Safa’s concept - transforming a scrap of inspiration into an immersive experience. Proof that it's all about timing and connection! Lyrically, Safa leans into escapism with refreshing honesty in the opening verse: 'I think we could so live out here. I mean my head is so clear when I'm here with ya...' It’s a quiet rebellion wrapped in velvet. A refusal to return to a life that doesn’t feel aligned, choosing presence, connection, and peace instead. The earthy visuals have a softness and feeling of introspection that matches the sonic palette and simplicity of the song - like a reconnection with ones self. -Rachel Fryer
